During these difficult times, we are reminded that the most important things in life are the health and well-being of our loved ones. You can be assured that Bay City Metering has taken every precaution to ensure the safety of our employees, clients, and partners during these unprecedented times.
We want to take this time to reach out and share with you what we have been doing in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Currently, Bay City Metering has suspended all manual reading of utility submeters. However, we will continue to produce monthly utility bills based upon estimates from last month or last year’s usage. All meter usage is based upon accumulative readings so all estimates will be confirmed once we gain access to the meters, which will hopefully be in the near future.
Estimating
Presently, we will be estimating tenants usage based upon tenant’s past usages. When tenants review their monthly bills there will be an “A” or an “E” which denotes the method of meter reading— if the readings are actual or estimated. As we acclimate to working remotely and things move forward, we will be able to improve the system by which we estimate. A number of applications have been furnished with remote metering systems that will allow us to yield more accurate estimates based upon analysis of actual tenant data.
All submeter usage is billed based upon subtracting the present reading from the prior reading. Using this logic, when we are able to gain access to the individual tenant submeters we will be able to assign a true value to the meter readings.
Continuing service
We are currently reaching out to Ownerships and Managing Agents to confirm if Buildings are open and whether we can gain access to read their meters. As we continue to understand how to perform in today’s new standards, this is what we know: Con Edison is still reading meters that are outside or in uninhabited building spaces*. Each submetered building by PSC ruling is a stated Utility. Bay City Metering’s role in these Buildings is to provide billing services and help Buildings keep their electrical infrastructure safe which has classified us as essential workers. As such, we are able to continue working in NYC.
We thank you for the trust you have placed in us in the past, and we pledge to do our very best to get through these uncharted waters together. Although we do not yet fully know the long-term impact of this crisis, we remain confident that our simple and direct process of producing your monthly submetered billing provides us with the ability to address the new challenges that our industry – and your industry – may face as we move forward.
